Lenticular Lens Direction

Printer Friendly

Some lenticular projects suffer sad fate, destined for the bin because they are, well, ugly.  Many of these ugly ducklings could have been swans simply by changing the lens direction.

What is a lenticular lens in the first place? They are the ridges in the plastic that either run horizontally or vertically (see picture below).

Lenticular Lens Profile

Lens direction makes a huge difference in the amount of ghosting you may experience.  So, which should you choose for your project?   There are 2 rules of thumb to follow:

- If it's 3D or a walk-by (ie. magnet, poster, POS) the lenses have to run vertically, creating a Left to Right Lenticular Effect.

Lenticular Left to Right

- If it is ANYTHING else, the lens should run horizontally to create a Top to Bottom Lenticular Effect. This includes flips, zoom, motion, morph, etc...
